rain

the VIP fancy bus to trat... empty!

it is rainy season, so i guess i shouldn't be too surprised when it rains every day.

in trat, on the eastern side of thailand. staying in pop's guesthouse. very cheap and very clean and in a really cute little town that has only a handful of foreign folks. i was going to take a ferry over to ko chang, to be a beach girl for a few days, and then take a boat to cambodia to beach there for a few days, but i have decided against that based on the fact that it rains 4 out of 5 days in huge overwhelming downpours.

contingency plan (that i just decided on this morning when i woke up to catch a ferry and it was raining...)IS to get a passport photo taken and hop on a bus to the southernmost point in thailand, cross the border and get a bus to phnom penh. stay there for a few days and then head up to battamburg and siem reap. this is cool cause it gives me an extra 5 days or so in vietnam, where it ISN'T rainy season so hopefully i can do some diving or at least lounging on my way back to china.

anyhow, this is very spur of the moment, which is the way it should be in my opinion. but it is also really good for me, because i was getting kind of worried about traveling on my own through cambodia and vietnam. thailand is so full of people and feels very safe as a single traveler, but the anticipation of cambodia has been making me very anxious. nothing like the rain to plunge you forward into your fears. i have traveled by myself a lot... and hell, i live by myself in a strange and very foreign country, but something about the history of these countries has me thinking about things a little more.

no fears mamasita. i'll be ok. and i have my cell and i will email you when i arrive in the big city.
